Home and Home Office Computer Users: How can I put two computers on the internet? You will need a router and a network adapter for each computer. Many people are choosing to use wireless networking, even for desktop PC's. However, the installer must use WPA or better encryption to keep your neighbors out. My computer is running very slow. It seemed to be faster than it is now. Is it time for a new computer? Do I have a virus? Could I upgrade and save money? Computers that are purchased from the store typically are built to handle the software products that are already preloaded with the machine when it was new. This is true even with a higher end model. When you begin to add additional software you need, over time, the speed of the computer bogs down. Simple upgrades and a spyware/antivirus check are sometimes all that are needed to get a computer back to new again. Someone to guide you into your next purchase might save you money later. I have DSL/Cable/Satellite internet service at my home. I am worried about hackers. Is my computer secure? Even Fortune 100 companies cannot let down their guard with network security. A malicious hacker typically uses a "port scanner" to probe on a wide range of internet addresses. Businesses, usually out of need, keep ports open for company traffic. However, this can be used by a hacker to gain access to their computer network. Home users that connect their computer directly to the internet are open for such an attack. A router or firewall software are usually enough to ward off a potential hacker. It is much easier for him/her to find an open port than to crack an unopened one.
